106th Artist Meeting
The 106th Art Discussion Group Meeting will be held on Thursday 22nd November 2012 at 19.15hrs at MISCO OFFICES (first floor) Fino Showrooms in Notabile Road, Mriehel. For this meeting the Group is inviting Dolores Lungaro-Mifsud an enthusiastic and successful ceramist. She was awarded 1st prize for best sculpture (in ceramics) covering all mediums 2011 at the 10th National Competition and Exhibition, Malta Society of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce (http://artsmalta.org/).
Mr. E. V. Borg, the chairman of the group will introduce her to the audience and the artist will answer questions about technique, subject matter and career after projecting on screen a sample of her work.
One of her works ‘Anima Nuda’ has been chosen as the cover of the album ‘Phil’s Feelings’ by Italian jazz artists Alessandro Filippig Quartet.
The first time Dolores handled clay she instantly fell in love with the medium. Over the past few years much of her efforts have been directed to experimentation, introspection and expression.
This allowed her to produce works through self-taught techniques, deepening her knowledge of clays, glazes and various Anima Nuda added materials including metals, glass, paper, and sawdust.
She studied ceramics with the late Julie Apap and George Muscat. She attended various courses, workshops and seminars to help deepen her skills and perception in ceramics. In 2010 Dolores proudly set up her own studio, bought her first kiln and started working on bigger projects.
Respect, understanding and representation of clay continues to become more precise and personal, helping her express her views of life, giving fire to her imagination with the combination of active surfaces, sometimes aggressively tooled and deeply stained. She specializes in raku, abstract ceramic sculpture and ceramics plaques for walls.
She has exhibited in various collective exhibitions and is currently working towards a solo exhibitionin the near future. She is vice-president & co-founder of the Malta Raku Association (www.maltaraku.com) and a member of the Art Discussion Group (http://adgmalta.webs.com) Fallen Apples
Ray Piscopo (1954- ) whose personal exhibition: ‘OPUS 2012 After the Masters’ opens on the 29th of November 2012 at Cavalieri Hotel St. Julians will give a quick preview of his actual collection (35 works) and give out invites for the inauguration. His exhibition closes on the 24th January 2013.
ADG invites its members, their friends and the public to this cultural and artistic event that would surely interest those with an obsession and love for ceramics and the masters.
