131st Artist Meeting
Louis Agius - photographer
The 131st Art Discussion Group Meeting will be held on Tuesday 16th June 2015 at 19.30hrs at MISCO OFFICE (first floor) in Fino Building in Notabile Road, Mriehel. ADG is inviting Louis Agius a photographer of various themes that include abstracts, architecture and fine art photography. His personal exhibition at the Hilton in July 2013: ‘Architecture...Light and Shadow’ was well received and attained international artistic levels.
‘This classical approach does not ignore the poetry of nature as ‘In Art in View’ where a conifer is caught in contrast to a blank high wall as a dry leaf is pressed in a book. In ‘Stairway Poetry’ the lyricism is the harmony of structures in light and shade of repeated modules in a staircase.
The former belongs to a series of wonderful photographs (9) at Bayerische Motoren Werke, Munich in Germany while the latter belongs to a series of four inspired by structures at the Malta International Airport or its vicinity Skyparks’ (Borg, E. V. commenting on Architecture…Light and Shadow).
‘I enjoy most aspects of photography particularly those involving people like sports, stage, portraiture, travel and photojournalism. I am also keen on macro and close-ups. In the last three or four years I have been trying to change course and have concentrated on abstraction, architecture and fine art photography’. ( Agius, Louis the artist)
Louis is well known for reportage photography: realistic, factual, pungent and revealing. He works fast and is spontaneous, improvises on the spot, freezing the moment without planning too much or editing. He is fresh and natural. His work is not contrived or posed. It is a chunk of life with the subject caught unawares.
Louis started in earnest in 1996 and up to 2005 he worked on monochrome helped by high profile photographers Joseph A. Vella (1927 - ) of Mosta and Wistin Baldacchino (1949 - ) of Attard. Later he ventured into colour. In monochrome he is quite classical while in colour he verges on the naturalistic and realistic.
Louis Agius is a
freelance photographer and President of the Malta Photographic Society. Born in
Zabbar he moved to Canada living there for five years. Returning to Malta he
moved to San Gwann where he still lives. Louis started as an engineer, a
fitter. Then he was employed by De La Rue where he was promoted to assistant
manager in a 32 year career.
Lately he travelled to India and Vietnam exploiting this chance of a lifetime to produce a portfolio the result of an experience he will never forget.
He won several awards and acceptances in international competitions and in his passion for photography he has found great satisfaction and pleasure.
ADG invites all members and their friends and the public to enjoy meeting Louis Agius the painter of photographer of explicit talent and skill who is ready to share his work and answer any query on aesthetics and technique.
